Practice real-life budgeting by distributing a monthly paycheck across rent, food, transportation, fun, and savings. Race the clock or learn at your own pace across three difficulty levels.

Choose your game mode (Timed or Practice) and difficulty level, then tap 'Start Budgeting!'
A monthly income amount is shown at the top. Each category card displays its minimum required spending.
Press + to add $50 to a category or − to remove $50 (you can't go below a category's minimum).
Watch the 'Left to Allocate' counter — you must bring it to exactly $0 to unlock the Submit button.
When all money is allocated (remaining = $0), the Submit button glows green. Tap it to score a point!
In Timed mode, balance as many budgets as possible before the 90-second timer runs out.
Try to put at least 20% into Savings for a bonus 'Great Saver' message.
Use the Reset button to return all categories to their minimums and start the allocation over.
Interactive Allocation Controls
Use + and − buttons to assign dollars to each spending category in $50 increments. A live 'Left to Allocate' counter shows exactly how much remains, turning green and pulsing the Submit button when the budget is perfectly balanced.
Five Budget Categories
Distribute income across Rent 🏠, Food 🍕, Transport 🚌, Fun 🎮, and Savings 🐷. Each category has a color-coded card with a minimum-requirement marker on its progress bar, so players learn which expenses are non-negotiable.
Real-Time Budget Health Dashboard
A mini bar chart at the top of the income card shows the percentage split across all five categories at a glance, updating every time an allocation changes. The header also displays the current savings rate.
Timed and Practice Modes
Timed mode challenges players to balance as many budgets as possible in 90 seconds, building mental math speed. Practice mode removes the clock so learners can explore trade-offs without pressure.
Three Difficulty Levels
Easy gives generous income with 40–50% free to allocate. Medium tightens the margins to 28–37%. Hard squeezes to 18–27% free dollars and adds a mandatory minimum savings requirement, forcing real trade-offs.
Budget Builder is an interactive financial literacy game that teaches players how to distribute a monthly income across essential and discretionary spending categories. Each round generates a random paycheck and a set of minimum costs for rent, food, transportation, and fun. Players use + and − controls to allocate every dollar until the budget balances perfectly at zero. The game features a fresh mint-and-teal dashboard aesthetic with color-coded category cards, a live savings-rate display, and animated feedback — making the abstract concept of budgeting feel tangible and rewarding.
Makes the 50/30/20 budgeting rule concrete
By physically moving dollars between needs, wants, and savings, players internalize the famous 50/30/20 rule far better than reading about it.
Teaches that every dollar must have a job
The zero-sum mechanic — where remaining must hit exactly $0 — reinforces the foundational zero-based budgeting principle used by financial experts.
Reveals trade-offs in real spending decisions
When the income is tight (Medium and Hard modes), players discover they must reduce fun or transport spending to afford rent and food.
Builds savings habits through visible reward
The live savings-rate percentage and 'Great Saver' bonus encourage players to prioritize savings over discretionary spending.
Develops mental math skills with money amounts
Repeatedly adding and subtracting $50 increments across multiple categories sharpens arithmetic fluency in a meaningful context.
Scales naturally for different age groups
Easy mode is accessible to elementary students, Medium suits middle schoolers, and Hard's tight margins mirror real adult budgeting challenges.
The small vertical tick on each category's progress bar shows the minimum you must spend in that category. You cannot reduce a category's allocation below its minimum — the − button will be disabled when you reach it.
The Submit button only lights up when 'Left to Allocate' reaches exactly $0. If it still shows a remaining amount, you need to press + on any category to assign those dollars somewhere.
In Hard mode, the Savings category has a minimum equal to 5% of the monthly income. This means you must save at least that amount before you can balance the budget, simulating 'pay yourself first' financial advice.
The savings rate in the income card header is calculated as Savings ÷ Income × 100. Financial experts recommend targeting 20% or more. Reaching 20%+ earns a bonus 'Great Saver' message when you submit.
You earn 1 point for each successfully balanced budget (remaining = $0 with all minimums met). In Timed mode, try to balance as many budgets as possible in 90 seconds. Your best score is saved per difficulty and mode combination.
Those five mini-bars show the percentage of income allocated to each spending category in real time. They update as you press + or −, giving you a quick visual breakdown of your spending split.
