How to Play Felt Tap

  1. 1

    Find Home Row

Rest your left index finger on F and your right index finger on J. The on-screen keys show the same bumps.

  2. 2

    Watch the Strings

An ivory tile marked f slides the left bank. A tile marked j slides the right bank.

  3. 3

    Strike the Gold Zone

Press the matching key when the tile is inside the gold band. The felt hammer swings and the tile flies off.

  4. 4

    Finish the Etude

Twelve hits fill the run. Three drops end it. Change Easy, Medium, or Hard any time; the workshop restarts.

Key Features

  • A Piano Workshop

Notes slide down two banks of strings. F fires the left felt hammer. J fires the right. The gold band is the strike zone.

  • Home Bumps

The two ivory keys at the bottom are F and J, with the raised home bumps under your index fingers. Type on a keyboard or tap the keys.

  • Timing, Not a Quiz

A hit knocks the tile off the strings and pops points. Miss the zone and the tile drops into the soundboard and costs a life.

  • Score, Streak, and Best

Hits start at 100 and climb by 50 with each streak. Twelve good strikes finish the etude. Best score is saved per difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What skill does Felt Tap practice?

Home-row index fingers: F under the left index finger and J under the right. That is the starting posture for touch typing.

Do I need a keyboard?

A keyboard is best, but the two ivory keys at the bottom work on a touch screen. They are the hammers, not a multiple-choice strip.

How does scoring work?

A first hit is 100 points. Each extra hit in a row adds 50 more. A missed tile resets the streak and costs a life. Best score is saved for each difficulty.

What happens if I press too early?

The hammer swings and nothing is scored. Wait until the tile is in the gold band. If a tile slides past the band, it drops and you lose a life.

Can I mute the sounds?

Yes. The speaker button sits in the HUD next to Score and remembers your choice.
