Sort Nouns and Verbs at the Letterpress

Press Sort

A copper letterpress, ink-stained trays, and a bed of English word slugs. Tap a word, then drop it in Nouns or Verbs. A clean sort scores. A miss shakes the slug and breaks the streak. Built for second-grade parts of speech.

How to Play Press Sort

  1. 1

    Pick a Shift

Clear the bed in one run, or play survival with three lives. Easy, medium, and hard change how many slugs and how hard the words are.

  2. 2

    Read a Slug

Tap a word on the press. It lifts. A noun names a person, place, or thing. A verb names an action.

  3. 3

    Drop It

Tap the teal Nouns tray or the coral Verbs tray. Keys 1 and 2 do the same after a word is held.

  4. 4

    Clear the Bed

Sort every slug to finish. Chase a streak and a new best. English words stay English.

Key Features

  • Tap, Then Tray

Word slugs sit on the press bed. Tap one. Tap the Nouns tray or the Verbs tray. No drag required, so it works on touch.

  • Instant Ink

A right tray swallows the slug and pops points. A wrong tray shakes the slug and shows a miss. You never wait for a Done button.

  • Score You Chase

Hits start at +100 and climb with the streak. A clean bed adds a perfect-press bonus. Best scores save per mode and difficulty.

  • Three Beds

Easy uses short nouns and action verbs. Medium adds school words. Hard uses past-tense verbs and longer nouns.

What is Press Sort?

Press Sort is a nouns-and-verbs sorting game. A letterpress holds English word slugs. The player taps a word, then taps a tray labeled Nouns or Verbs. Correct sorts fly into the tray and add to the score. Wrong sorts shake and cost a life in survival. The practice words stay in English. Buttons and labels follow the site locale.

Why Play Press Sort?

  • 1

    Parts of Speech by Hand

Students decide noun or verb on each word, the same choice they make when they write sentences.

  • 2

    The Whole Bed at Once

Many slugs stay visible. The board stays readable after each sort.

  • 3

    Touch First

Tap a slug, tap a tray. Play sits under the press, not on top of the words.

  • 4

    A Score That Moves

Point pops and a streak make a grammar sort feel like a game, not a worksheet.
