Latch Step — Multi-Step Equations Game

Solve one-variable multi-step equations and slot the right value into the latch. Eight gates, a live score chase, and a vault that seals if the pins run out. Built for middle-school algebra: distribute, combine like terms, and isolate the variable.

GameMathAlgebra7th–8th

How to Play Latch Step

  1. 1

    Pick a Vault

Choose Easy, Medium, or Hard. The lock plate shows a one-variable equation. Four brass bolts show possible values.

  2. 2

    Solve the Steps

Distribute if needed, move constants, then divide. The answer is an integer. Common misses sit on the other bolts.

  3. 3

    Slot the Bolt

Drag the matching value onto the latch, or tap the bolt and then the slot. A hit opens the gate and deals the next plate.

  4. 4

    Clear Eight Gates

Chain correct answers to grow the multiplier. Three wrong pins end the run. The results card shows score, opens, and misses.

Key Features

  • Eight Gates Per Run

Each correct value opens one latch. Clear all eight to finish the vault. Misses spend a pin. Three spent pins seal the run.

  • Brass Bolts, Not a Worksheet

Four answer bolts sit under a lock plate. Drag a bolt onto the latch, or tap it and then the slot. Hits pop points. Wrong bolts fall out of play.

  • Three Equation Layers

Easy is add-or-subtract then divide. Medium adds parentheses and distributing. Hard puts the variable on both sides.

  • Score, Streak, and Best

Hits start at 100 and climb with a streak bonus. A labeled score plaque stays up the whole run. Best is saved per difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of equations appear?

Easy uses forms like 3x + 5 = 17. Medium uses parentheses such as 4(x − 2) = 20 or x + 14 = 4(2x + 7). Hard puts the variable on both sides, such as 5(x + 2) = 3x + 16.

Are the answers always integers?

Yes. Each plate is built from a chosen integer solution, so you can check by substituting back.

How does scoring work?

A first hit is 100 points. Each extra hit in a row adds 50 more. A miss resets the streak and spends one pin.

Can I mute the sounds?

Yes. The speaker sits in the score row, not the top-right corner, and remembers your choice.

Exponent Rules — High School Math Quiz

Master the laws of exponents — pick the correct simplified form or value from four choices. 45 problems across three tiers: Algebra I (product, quotient, power, zero, and negative exponent rules), Algebra II (fractional exponents, scientific notation, combining multiple rules), and Advanced (solving exponential equations, complex multi-rule simplifications).

Guess the Equation

Inspired by Nerdle — guess the hidden math equation one character at a time in 6 tries. Every guess must be a valid equation (left side evaluates to the right side). 🟩 Green means the right character in the right place, 🟪 Purple means right character but wrong place, ⬛ Gray means not in the equation at all.

Guess the Formula

You're shown a table of x → y pairs — your job is to identify which of four formulas generated the data. Study the numbers, spot the pattern (linear, quadratic, exponential, modulo?), and select the correct formula before time runs out. On Medium and Hard difficulties you can also 'probe' additional x values to gather more evidence.

Hoop Solve

A dusk arena, a hoop, and numbered balls on the floor. An equation such as x × 4 = 12 sits above the court. Tap the ball that is x. A make flies to the rim. A miss clanks and costs a life. Three misses end the run. Built for fifth-grade one-step equations.

If / Then — Conditional Logic Quiz

Master the logic of if/then conditionals (P → Q). 45 problems across three levels: Foundation covers the truth table for P→Q (vacuous truth, the one false case), Modus Ponens, Modus Tollens, and why Affirming the Consequent and Denying the Antecedent are invalid. Intermediate adds the contrapositive, converse, inverse, biconditional (P↔Q), the disjunction equivalence (¬P∨Q), and hypothetical syllogism. Advanced covers chained conditionals, negation of conditionals (¬(P→Q) = P∧¬Q), tautologies, complex truth value analysis, and edge cases.
