Choose Difficulty and Mode
Pick Easy (with formula hints), Medium, or Hard. Choose 10-Round Arcade for a scored session or Survival for endless play with 3 lives.
Study the Shape
A labeled geometric shape appears. Note the dimensions carefully — radius, base, height, or parallel sides depending on the shape type.
Calculate and Enter the Area
Apply the correct formula in your head (or on paper). Type your answer in the input box — whole numbers only, the game uses integer-friendly dimensions.
Submit Before Time Runs Out
Press Enter or click Submit. Correct answers score points plus a speed bonus. Wrong answers (or timeout in Survival) cost a life.
6 Geometric Shape Types
Practice calculating areas of rectangles, squares, right triangles, circles, parallelograms, and trapezoids — the core shapes tested in every geometry curriculum.
Professional SVG Diagrams
Each shape is drawn with clear dimension lines, tick marks, and labeled measurements — exactly like real geometry diagrams, making the problems feel authentic.
Formula Hint System
Easy mode shows the area formula as a hint (e.g. A = ½ × b × h for triangles). Medium and Hard keep it hidden, so you must recall formulas from memory.
Countdown Timer with Speed Bonus
A color-coded timer bar (green → amber → red) creates urgency. Answering quickly earns up to +50 bonus points on top of the base score.
Shape Area Challenge is a timed math game that tests and teaches area calculation across six fundamental geometric shapes. Instead of static worksheets, it gives you a fresh randomly generated shape each round with randomized but integer-friendly dimensions. The visual diagrams match the style students see in textbooks and standardized tests, making this game an effective and engaging supplement to geometry lessons. It covers the core area formulas for rectangles (A = l × w), triangles (A = ½ × b × h), circles (A = π × r²), parallelograms (A = b × h), and trapezoids (A = ½ × (a + b) × h).
Master the Core Area Formulas
Repeated exposure to all six shape types under time pressure builds the formula recall you need for tests — no more blanking on the trapezoid formula mid-exam.
Visual Learning Approach
Seeing professionally-rendered diagrams with proper dimension lines makes abstract formulas concrete and memorable, matching the style of actual textbook problems.
Adjustable for Every Level
Easy mode provides formula hints for students still learning, while Hard mode hides hints and introduces all shape types — suitable from middle school through SAT prep.
Quick Practice Sessions
Each 10-round arcade game takes just a few minutes, making it perfect for daily geometry review, test-day warmups, or a quick challenge between classes.
For most shapes, yes — the game generates dimensions that produce integer areas. For circles, the answer uses π and may be non-integer; the game accepts answers within a small rounding tolerance (±1).
Rectangle: A = length × width. Square: A = side². Right triangle: A = ½ × base × height. Circle: A = π × r². Parallelogram: A = base × height. Trapezoid: A = ½ × (a + b) × height.
Easy shows the area formula as a hint and uses simpler shapes (rectangle, square, right triangle). Medium removes the hint. Hard includes all shape types with larger dimension ranges, requiring full formula recall.
The faster you answer correctly within the time limit, the higher your bonus — up to +50 extra points for an immediate answer. The bonus decreases linearly as the timer runs down.
Absolutely. The game covers the exact formulas on most middle school and high school geometry curricula. Teachers can project it on a screen for whole-class participation, or students can use it independently for self-paced review.
