Shape Workshop

Sort colorful shapes into two wooden trays in a sunny workshop. Use right angles, parallel sides, and equal side lengths to complete five benches, with new shapes and orientations on every replay.

How to play Shape Workshop

  1. 1

    Read the rule

The first bench asks for Right triangles: shapes with three sides and one right angle. The short explanation under each later rule gives its exact meaning.

  2. 2

    Inspect a shape

Select a piece to see its properties. Small square marks show right angles. Matching arrow marks identify parallel pairs, and matching ticks identify equal sides.

  3. 3

    Move it to a tray

Drag into Matches the rule or Does not match, or select a piece and then a tray. With a keyboard, use Tab to focus and Enter or Space to activate the same controls.

  4. 4

    Use the feedback

Correct pieces stay in the tray and earn points. A wrong piece stays available; read its properties and try the other tray. For Rhombuses, a square matches because its four sides are equal.

  5. 5

    Finish the workshop

After sorting all six pieces, select Next bench. After five benches and 30 shapes, Play again starts fresh geometry, resets Score and Streak, and keeps Best.

Key Features

  • Move real pieces

Drag a shape into a tray, or select the piece and then the destination. Correct shapes stay in their trays so the sorted groups remain visible.

  • Five property rules

Complete six shapes for each of five rules. Trapezoids use the lesson's definition of exactly one parallel pair; squares are included among rhombuses and parallelograms.

  • Fresh geometry

Side lengths, proportions, rotations, colors, and piece order vary. Each bench has three matches and three nonmatches, with new geometry on replay.

  • Inspect and retry

Selecting a piece shows its side count, right-angle count, parallel-pair count, and whether all sides are equal. A wrong tray resets Streak but removes no points.

  • Score and sound

Each correct placement earns 100 points plus 10 per consecutive success, capped at a 50-point bonus. Best and the Sound preference are saved on this browser when storage is available. Quiet music can be muted.

What is Shape Workshop?

Shape Workshop is a hands-on geometry sorting game for the Classify Triangles and Quadrilaterals lesson. Each bench holds six movable shapes and two trays: Matches the rule and Does not match. Read the property rule, inspect a shape, and move it into the appropriate tray. For example, on the Rhombuses bench, a square belongs in Matches the rule because all four sides are equal. A long rectangle belongs in Does not match: it has four right angles but not four equal sides. On the Parallelograms bench, both shapes match because each has two pairs of parallel sides. Five benches cover right triangles, perpendicular sides in quadrilaterals, trapezoids, parallelograms, and rhombuses.

Why play Shape Workshop?

  • 1

    Sort by properties

Look at sides and angles rather than relying on a familiar outline or color.

  • 2

    Recognize overlapping families

Squares count as both rhombuses and parallelograms; rectangles count as parallelograms.

  • 3

    Connect marks to meaning

Small square marks show right angles, arrow marks pair parallel sides, and matching tick marks show equal sides.

  • 4

    Practice at your own pace

There is no countdown or life limit. A misplaced piece returns to the bench for another try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which shapes count as right triangles?

A right triangle has exactly three sides and one 90° angle. Rotating it does not change its classification. The small square marks its right angle.

Which trapezoid definition does this game use?

It follows this lesson: a trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. A parallelogram has two pairs, so it does not match the Trapezoids rule.

Does a square count as a rhombus?

Yes. A rhombus has four equal sides, so a square is a rhombus with four right angles. A square is also a parallelogram because it has two pairs of parallel sides.

What do the markings show?

Small squares mark right angles. A single arrow on each of two sides marks one parallel pair; double arrows mark another pair. Matching tick marks indicate equal side lengths. Selecting a piece also shows its properties.

What happens after a mistake?

The piece remains available on the bench and Streak returns to zero. Score does not decrease, and there is no time or life penalty. Try the other tray after checking the shape's properties.

How do scoring and replay work?

A correct placement earns 100 points plus 10 times the current streak, up to 50 bonus points. Complete five benches of six pieces. Play again generates new geometry and resets the current score; Best and the Sound preference persist locally when available.

Can I play without dragging or typing?

Yes. Select a shape and then a tray using taps, mouse clicks, or Tab followed by Enter or Space. No typed answers are required.
