Fraction Tile Workshop
Change Your strip with Split 2, Split 3, Join 2, or Join 3 until its numbers match the target fraction. The Starting strip stays fixed. The filled length is the same part of the strip, cut into a new number of tiles. Progress runs from 1 / 6 to 6 / 6, and some headings say Build the simplest form.
Build the target
The heading says Build the target, or Build the simplest form. Match the fraction shown beside it. The Starting strip stays put, and the count begins at 1 / 6.
Split or Join
Press Split 2, Split 3, Join 2, or Join 3. The line says Multiply both numbers by 2, Multiply both numbers by 3, Divide both numbers by 2, or Divide both numbers by 3.
Same filled length!
That line shows after each press until the sixth target is built. The first order is done when Your strip reads 6/8. Split 3 on 3/4 makes 9/12 and leaves the order open.
Next
Next appears when Your strip matches the target numbers and moves the count forward. On 6 / 6 the button says Play again, and the line says All targets built!
Starting strip and Your strip
The Starting strip keeps the opening fraction for the whole order. Your strip starts as the same tiles, and Split or Join changes how many pieces share that filled length.
Split 2 and Split 3
Split 2 multiplies both numbers by 2, and Split 3 multiplies both numbers by 3. Either button turns off when the strip would pass 12 tiles.
Join 2 and Join 3
Join 2 divides both numbers by 2, and Join 3 divides both numbers by 3. The button stays off unless both numbers divide evenly by that factor.
Next and Play again
When Your strip matches the target, Split and Join hide and Next appears. On the sixth order that button reads Play again, and the line reads All targets built!
Fraction Tile Workshop uses two tile strips for equivalent fractions. The Starting strip stays on the opening fraction while Your strip changes with Split or Join. Split multiplies both numbers by 2 or 3. Join divides both numbers by 2 or 3. The first order starts at 3/4 with the target 6/8. Split 2 multiplies both numbers by 2, so Your strip goes from 3/4 to 6/8. The bench shows 3/4 = (3 × 2)/(4 × 2) = 6/8, then Multiply both numbers by 2. Same filled length!
Equation after every press
The bench writes the old fraction, the × or ÷ on both numbers, and the new fraction. Beside it are the words Multiply both numbers by 2 or 3, or Divide both numbers by 2 or 3.
1/2 needs Split 2 and Split 3
The fifth order starts at 1/2 and the target is 6/12. Split 2 then Split 3 goes 2/4 then 6/12, and Split 3 then Split 2 goes 3/6 then 6/12.
Build the simplest form.
That heading asks for the simplest form. 6/9 takes one Join 3 to make 2/3. 8/12 takes Join 2 twice: 4/6, then 2/3.
Play again deals six new orders
The count returns to 1 / 6 with two Split targets, two Join targets, one simplest form in a single Join, and one simplest form in two Joins. The new set skips the opening six and the six just finished.
They are always 3/4 to 6/8, 1/3 to 3/9, 8/12 to 2/3, 6/9 to 2/3, 1/2 to 6/12, and 6/12 to 1/2. The third, fourth, and sixth say Build the simplest form. The others say Build the target.
Your strip must show the target numbers. Split and Join then hide, and Next appears. On 3/4, Split 2 makes 6/8 and finishes the order. Split 3 makes 9/12, and the order stays open.
The board has no timer and no lives. The only count is progress, from 1 / 6 to 6 / 6. When the sixth target is built, the game reports a score of 600.
Split 2 or Split 3 is dim when the denominator times that factor would pass 12. Join 2 or Join 3 is dim when either number does not divide evenly by 2 or by 3. A dim button does nothing. After a match, all four hide.
It loads six new orders and sets the count to 1 / 6. They arrive as a Split target, a Join target, a simplest form reached in one Join, another Split, another Join, then a simplest form reached in two Joins. Factors stay 2 and 3, and denominators stay at 12 or below. The set leaves out the opening six and the six just finished.
