Choose Your Level and Category
Select a difficulty tier (Grade 9, Grade 10–11, or SAT Prep) and a subject category. Mix them freely to drill exactly the vocabulary you need.
Read the Word in Context
A vocabulary word appears alongside a real sentence showing how it is used. Read both carefully — context is your biggest clue.
Pick the Closest Synonym
Four single words appear in a 2×2 grid. Tap the one that means the same as the target word. One clear winner — three convincing distractors.
Use Eliminations Wisely
Tap the Eliminate button to cross out one wrong answer. You have 3 eliminations per game — use them on the trickiest SAT-level questions.
118 Synonym Pairs Across 3 Levels
A curated bank of 118 synonym questions spanning Grade 9, Grade 10–11, and SAT prep — covering General, Science, Literature, and History.
Usage Sentence Context
Every word appears in a real sentence so you see it in context before choosing — making the game genuinely educational, not just a guessing contest.
Eliminate a Wrong Answer
Stuck? Use one of your 3 hint lifelines to eliminate a wrong answer from the grid — a strategic mechanic that rewards smart play.
2×2 Answer Grid
Four single-word choices in a clean grid make it fast to scan and satisfying to pick — no reading walls of text.
A word synonyms quiz challenges you to identify which word is closest in meaning to a given target word. Unlike definition quizzes, synonym quizzes require a deeper feel for connotation and nuance — two words can share a basic meaning but carry very different tones. This game reinforces that distinction across 118 carefully chosen synonym pairs, from straightforward grade-level words to subtle SAT vocabulary.
Build Nuanced Word Knowledge
Knowing a word's definition is one thing; knowing its synonyms and how they differ in tone is what makes writing and comprehension truly sharp.
Direct SAT Prep
The SAT Reading section frequently tests synonym-level vocabulary in context. Every question in this game mimics that exact format.
Context-First Learning
Seeing each word in a sentence before choosing forces you to think about usage, not just dictionary definitions.
Strategic Eliminations
The eliminate-a-wrong-answer mechanic adds a layer of strategy that makes the game more engaging than a simple multiple-choice drill.
Tapping the Eliminate button randomly crosses out one wrong answer in the grid. The crossed-out option cannot be selected, effectively turning a 1-in-4 guess into a 1-in-3. You get 3 eliminations per game.
Grade 9 uses common descriptive words with clearly different distractors. Grade 10–11 introduces academic vocabulary where distractors are closer in meaning. SAT Prep uses precise, high-frequency SAT words where the distractors are near-synonyms that require real knowledge to distinguish.
Correct answers score 100 points at Grade 9, 150 at Grade 10–11, and 200 at SAT Prep. A consecutive-correct streak multiplier adds 50 × (streak − 1) bonus points per question.
You lose one life and the correct synonym is shown briefly before moving to the next word. Lose all 3 lives and the game ends with your final score displayed.

Once the question pool for your chosen difficulty and category is exhausted, the pool reshuffles and continues — great for spaced-repetition practice.
