  2. 2

    Read the Word

A vocabulary word appears with its part of speech. Read it carefully — some SAT words look deceptively familiar.

  3. 3

    Pick the Correct Definition

Four definitions are shown. Only one is correct. Use your vocabulary knowledge — or spend a hint to see an example sentence for context.

  4. 4

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the difficulty tiers?

Grade 9 covers common academic words you'd encounter in high school coursework. Grade 10–11 introduces more nuanced academic and subject-specific terms. SAT Prep focuses on high-frequency SAT vocabulary known for appearing on college entrance exams.

How does scoring work?

Correct answers score 100 points at Grade 9, 150 at Grade 10–11, and 200 at SAT Prep. Each consecutive correct answer adds a streak bonus of 50 × (streak − 1) extra points, so staying on a streak is worth chasing.

What do hints do?

Each hint reveals an example sentence that shows the word used in natural context. You get 3 hints per game — use them wisely on the trickiest SAT words.

What happens when I get an answer wrong?

You lose one life and the correct definition is shown for a moment before the next word appears — turning each mistake into a quick learning opportunity. Lose all 3 lives and the quiz ends.

Does the game repeat words?

The question pool for your chosen level and category is shuffled and cycled, so words will repeat once the pool is exhausted. This spaced-repetition effect reinforces retention.

Can I focus on just one subject?

Yes — choose Science, Literature, History, or General in the category selector to drill vocabulary from that subject only. Choose All Topics for a mixed challenge.
